Cookery Demonstrations.
We are delighted that some of Scotland’s best chef’s have agreed to come down and support the launch of the Food Festival by showing off their skills. The Food demonstrations will be held in the Eastgate Theatre, with the first event starting at 12.15pm. Tickets, which are available from the Tontine Hotel, are £8.00 for all four demonstrations, or £5 for two. We will also be holding the final of the Peebles Food Festival Primary School competition during the afternoon.
12.15 – 1.00 Kenny Coltman. Kenny, originally from Innerleithen, trained at Borders College and has worked in several top class restaurants and hotels. He is now Executive Head Chef at the Caledonian Hilton in Edinburgh. Details of the dishes he will prepare will be posted soon.
1.15 – 2.00 Final of the Peebles Primary School Food Festival Competition. This is the culmination of a competition which we have been running in the local Primary Schools to promote healthy eating. Kingsland, Priorsford and Halyrude children will all take place in a live cook off under the watchful eyes of Hydro Head Chef Len Cumming, and the audience will vote for the winner.
2.15 – 3.00 Tim Dover. Tim was formerly a chef but now supplies quality ingredients to the catering industry through Braehead Foods. Tim will demonstrate game and Scottish cheese dishes.
3.15 - 4.00 Gary Moore. Gary will be demonstrating a number of dishes suitable for home dinner parties using local Tweeddale produce. Gary is reconised as one of the Borders leading chefs and launched his "Kitchin Cuisine" business in April 2003
Wine Course
“Round the Wine World in 80 Minutes” will be presented in the “Studio” by Kenneth Vannan of Villeneuve Wines. Times for the courses are 1.00 – 2.20 and 3.00 – 4.20. Tickets are £10 per person and should be bought from Villeneuve Wines, in advance as numbers are limited. Participants will receive a certificate on completion of the course.
Gala Dinner
The high point of the festival will be the seven course Gala dinner which will be held in the Drill Hall. Each course will be cooked by a different local chef, who will be looking to use the best Scottish produce to create a truly memorable dinner. Wines will be chosen to compliment each course and will be supplied by Villeneuve wines, and the evening will be rounded off with a ceilidh . Click back soon to see the menu.

Indoor Food Market : a food market showcasing some of the areas top producers and suppliers will take place in the Drill Hall between 12.30 and 4.30 on the Sunday afternoon. There is no need to have lunch before you arrive as food and beverages can be bought from the various stalls and a seating area will be provided. Entry will be free, though we will be taking a collection for the Catering Scholarship Fund and Peebles Christmas Lights Fund.
Children’s Entertainment;
To keep the children amused there will be various entertainments, including Max Marshall, over two 45 minute sessions at a cost of £5.00 per session per child.
